The campaign promise to “drain the swamp” in Washington, DC, has been widely ridiculed by now. As we see a team of millionaire and billionaire robber barons turn the usual pay-for-play scheme in the Capitol into a true kleptocracy, as the oligarchy grants more “arkho” to the “olígos”, we should abandon the slogan altogether. After all, swamps are lovely places: the wetlands that border the Gulf of Mexico are full of much needed biodiversity and provide protection from the ravages of hurricanes — provided we don’t actually drain them. Looking at the slogan more closely, we can see the ecological disaster that it portends. How fitting, then, that it comes from those who either deny anthropogenic climate change or seek to profit from false remedies and drive us further into cataclysm.

Anyway, Jeff Sessions, Betsy DeVos and Rex Tillerson are dangerous and terrible. We should flush them back down to the sewage where they belong.
