CNN reports:

CIA interrogators used waterboarding at least 266 times on two top al Qaeda suspects, according to a Bush-era Justice Department memo released by the Obama administration.

The controversial technique that simulates drowning — and which President Obama calls torture — was used at least 83 times in August 2002 on suspected al Qaeda leader Abu Zubaydah, according to the memo.

Interrogators also waterboarded Khalid Sheikh Mohammed 183 times in March 2003. Mohammed is believed to be the mastermind behind the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the United States

I wanna know from the interrogator’s point-of-view: When does it become clear that your method of interrogation isn’t working? Like, after the 256th time, you should begin to wonder, “Hey, maybe this drowning shit isn’t very effective.” Or perhaps a little earlier. Like, say, before you do it the first time.

That presumes the interrogators are just idiots. But these are highly trained professionals with administration legal advisers sending them memos detailing levels of torture they deem acceptable or just skirting the line of legality. Breaking the law and violating the higher standards of human society all the way to hell.

Ya sure ya don’t wanna prosecute this shit, President Changey-Hopey-Pants? Cuz that would go a long way toward putting accountability into our democracy. Just sayin’.
