Fascists have no concept of the future. They’re too fixated on reviving an imaginary past and preventing any change that will benefit the people they want to oppress.
I thought about that as I watched the January 6th Committee hearings and the evidence that Trump condoned Proud Boy plans to hang Mike Pence. Did they really think this was a viable plan? What did they realistically think would come of lynching a Vice President or Speaker of the House? I don’t think they thought much beyond the thrill of punishing politicians they hated. But if they do envision a future, it’s ridiculously short sighted. Like the 1,000 year reign Hitler declared would follow his ascension to power. He lasted 12. Global warming stands a much better chance of lasting a long, long time.
