Far Right Side of History
I doubt there is a “right side of history.” There are right things to do — fight fascism, advance human rights, reorganize society to meet everyone’s needs and liberate them from drudgery, etc — but I don’t think history is some objective force making inerrant judgment on the past. What will future historians make of us? Who knows? They could be reasonable people or they could be total weirdos. Our present conflicts over teaching the history of slavery, genocide, and the Holocaust in public schools are not new. I wish I could say we could fight them to the finish, but I don’t think we’ll ever be finished. My hopes arise from our persistent push for a better society, our resistance to ignorance and oppression, and our insistence on retaining the truths of our past. And in our ability to ride the ludicrous.
All of which is to say that the new leadership in the House of Representatives are a bunch of wackos.
