This cartoon was created and published in the sliver of time between Congress passing a 45 day stop gap measure to prevent a government shutdown (for now) and the inevitable ouster of Kevin McCarthy as Speaker of the House. Kevin McCarthy did what we’ve said he would need to do all along: work with Democrats to pass a clean bill without drastic cuts to social and regulatory programs, against the demands of the Freedom Caucus. He resisted because he seemed to believe he could work with these unhinged, self serving loons, but they want to see him fall. Matt Gaetz might have wanted the Speaker’s gavel, but his main objective is to pander to the Trumpian/Q Anon voters in his base than work in the best interests of the country or even his party. As much as his Republican colleagues are trying to distance themselves from him, they are honestly no different than the self-serving creep.
I rarely do two cartoons in a row on the same issue, but this episode has really pissed me off.
