The time disparity between our world and the Otherworld is always a puzzle to sort out. In many stories of the Fae, an errant adult or abducted child who has spent only a short time among the Fae will upon returning home find that months, possibly years have passed. In our story, Fetch has traveled back and forth, skipping between different parts of the last few years. When Fetch left our world to care for his mom, it was still 2018 over here. When he came to invite Owen to the Otherworld it was in 2020, the onset of the pandemic, even though only a few weeks had passed in the Otherworld. When I pulled him back to deal with current events while I took a break from writing Otherworldly Goods (and deal with changes in my personal life), it was 2022-23. This was a bit of a metafictional discursion that makes timelines (and distinctions between author and character) a bit wonky, but when Fetch returned to the action of this story, only a few days had passed in the land of the Fae. Now he is back (temporarily) in the human world, deliberately setting his time travel magic to arrive just after Kevin’s transdimensional phone call (Fetch has a great roaming plan), pleading for help from the changeling Fetch left behind when he took Owen to the Otherworld.

Clear as mud, yes? On with the story.
