Cat Sith, or Sidhe, is a mythological creature of the Scottish Highlands and parts of Ireland. Some say cats (or Caits) are faeries, others that they are witches who can transform into cats until after they have spent all nine lives and then remain in cat form. You can read plenty more about them at this nice summery at The Scotsman.

So it is revealed at last what Fetch is — the spawn of a cat sith and a demon. You may now sit back from the edge of your seats.

Obviously for our purposes, Fetch is not a transmogrified witch; he’s a proper faerie, raised by faeries, yet schooled by demons. More on that to come.

One thing you might notice about Fetch’s mom is that unlike most Cat Sith, she is not black with a white patch on her chest. I thought about rendering her that way, but since Fetch is already established as a yellow cat, I thought she should bear some resemblance to her son. Oh, and his mom’s name is Morrigan. You’d learn that eventually, but why not tell you now?

PANEL 1
Charon scratching his head, Fetch looking a little proud.

CHARON: Unseelie Court? No wonder you’re taking the Styx.
But they’re vicious!
You look like a little kitty, not some demon!
FETCH: Half demon. My father was from Hell. But my mother is a Cat Sith.

PANEL 2
Charon more confused, Fetch rolling eyes.

CHARON: “Cat … she”...?
FETCH: Sure, whatever. It’s Gaelic.

PANEL 3
Morrigan creeping around a graveyard.

FETCH: Mom comes from a race of faerie cats that haunt graveyards to steal the souls of the dead before they’re properly buried.
On Samhain, if you leave out a saucer of milk, they’ll bless your house; if not, they’ll curse it.

PANEL 4
Charon grumpy, Fetch sarcastic.

CHARON: Hmph. Soul stealing. Sounds bad for business.
FETCH: Relax. Death is an expanding market. Plenty for everyone!
