GOP Candidates 2015

by kevinwmoore on September 27, 2015

Digital sketches of some GOP candidates I have been posting to the social media.

Ben Carson

Ben Carson recently contended that Darwin was influenced by “the Adversary” (i.e., Satan) in theorizing evolution, and religion is a good enough probable cause for searches.

Chuck Schumer on Iran Deal

Chuck Schumer came out against the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, aka “the Iran nuke deal.”

Trump Costume

Trump is everywhere.

Trump Meltdown

After the second GOP debate, Trump looked weaker.

Carly Fiorina

And Carly Fiorina came out the winner based on a good one-liner. Look at her positions on Russia and Iran and Planned Parenthood; she’s crazed.

Scott Walker

Scott Walker dropped out. I want to redraw this one. He looks too much like Mario Cuomo here. Oh welp.

John Boehner

John Boehner isn’t a candidate, but his tear is. A parting shot as he heads for the door.

Great Reasons to Have Kids

reasons-for-kids

Breed if you want to. Don’t breed if you don’t want to.

I’m a parent. I love my kids. I wanted to have children, so I did. I know a lot of people who don’t want to have children, and they have made the wise decision to not have them. Who needs more resentful, angry, unwilling parents in the world?

Yet some of my fellow child-havers feel it their duty to shame the child-have-nots for not taking on the responsibility of childrearing. Recently the NY Times ran a lifestyle article on what it considers a trend, the “child-free.” This prompted hand-wringing. The STFU Parents Twitter (corresponding to one of my top ten favorite blogs) hipped me to this long-winded, philosopher name dropping essay in response to the Times piece; after all the Kant, Aristotle, Plato and whatnot, the author winds up with, “Well, ya might regret NOT having kids, ya know?”

That prompted this cartoon. The arguments child-havers make to guilt the child-have-nots are simply ridiculous.

Libraries 2040

by kevinwmoore on April 6, 2015

I was recently asked by a librarian colleague to contribute a cartoon to a time capsule. Held by the Oregon Library Association, the capsule will open in 2040. Although I had the option to pick any old thing I had already done, I really liked the idea of creating a cartoon for an audience 25 years into the future; and using that time frame to speculate on how current issues of librarianship will play out over the next quarter century. Will we still have privacy issues, problems with technology, and questions on the relevance of libraries in the Information Age? Yeah, why not?  I have more confidence in that than in the likelihood that this cartoon will make the librarians 25 years from now laugh; or any of them reading this right now. But I’m amused, and that’s all that really matters, right? Right.
