On most issues I try to avoid a partisan perspective, because both parties have played a hand in creating the war-ravaged, poorly regulated, poor-punishing state of our society. One party is sensible enough to view this as a problem, but is either too ineffectual or too indebted to its corporate donors to do what … Read More “Wiped Out” »

Chuck Todd recently let it slip that he doesn’t feel obligated to do basic fact checking of a politician’s propaganda. In this case it was GOP talking points on so-called “Obummercare” – but I think we can see how this subpar approach to political reporting has misled the country into many other fiascos over the … Read More “Sketchbook: Cozy Chuck Todd Chihuahua” »

Sociologist Immanuel Wallerstein is the subject of this week’s Cranky Sociologist caricature. Wallerstein is the primary developer of world-systems theory, which has been invaluable in our modern understanding of globalization and late capitalism. You can read more about him in SocProf’s post at the Cranky Sociologists blog.
Another entry into the Cranky Sociologists gallery. Here is a webcomic page I created for IncitED, a nonprofit organization that helps raise money and awareness for education projects. Props to Kevilina and Peter, who were a pleasure to work with. To the Commissioned Comics Gallery.
Max Weber is the subject of this contribution to the Cranky Sociologists blog. Along with Emile Durkheim and Karl Marx, he is considered a founding theorist to establish sociology as a unique discipline. Check out this Durkheim vs. Weber table to get a sense of what he was all about.
Two founding sociologists square off at the Crank Sociologists blog. That’s Emile Durkheim vs. Max Weber. I posted a caricature of Durkheim recently, and one on Weber is forthcoming. And what of Karl Marx, the third in the holy trinity of sociologists? Don’t worry, he’s coming soon, too.

The focus of Mark’s article, Infaming the Public, Part IV: Public Self-Consciousness and Assessment for Democratic Renewal is much broader than this cartoon would imply, but draws upon … Read More “Toppling Michelle Rhee” »
Here is a caricature of Emile Durkheim for the Cranky Sociologists blog. You can see more of these at the gallery of the Cranky Sociologists blog, with commentary by SocProf. Durkheim is one of the Big Three of sociology, along with Max Weber and Karl Marx. He did a great deal in defining the unique subject … Read More “Cranky Sociologist Emile Durkheim” »
