I meant to post this last week, but life got away from me. Coincidentally, musician and activist Billy Bragg went to my home town of Buffalo, NY to support the Starbucks workers organizing a union. That got me on a few levels, not only as a former Buffalonian, but also as a former Starbucks worker, as well as kicking up old memories of seeing Bragg open for R.E.M. back in 1985 when they played at the University of Buffalo. I remember that concert fondly, it was the first time I had heard Bragg’s voice and passion for justice. 37 years later he still sounds great. Here’s the whole performance on Elmwood Avenue last week. It’s lovely.
