If you don’t follow football — and given my audience on this site, I’m sure half of you don’t — you may not have heard the controversy generated by Taylor Swift dating a player from the Kansas City Chiefs. However, you can bet conservatives have and as you might predict, their response to the attention NFL broadcasters paid to her presence at Chiefs games has been less than welcoming. Taylor is an outspoken feminist, queer ally, Democrat, and her new beau is a proponent of vaccinations.
That said, you don’t have to be a conservative to be annoyed by her “intrusion”, you can be a middle aged liberal who disdains pop music favored by teen girls. Like the dorks you find in YouTube comments to music videos by classic rock artists. “This is real music, not like that [insert pop music icon here] shit.”
I don’t listen to Taylor’s music, but if she wants to enjoy a ball game, fine by me. It’s not actually a big deal that a football player would date a successful woman. They date models all the time. The NFL is craving young audiences and if she attracts her fans to watch games with her, the league couldn’t be happier. Maybe she’ll say something about providing retired players healthcare. Use that platform.
