Crude & Feckless – Page 9
Get a pint, play some darts, catch up with old friends, and — oh, yeah, endure the local Buachailleen. Also known as Herding Boys, the Bauchailleen are small boyish looking faeries who often wear pointy hats made from upturned red flowers. They can be found in both Ireland and Scotland, preying upon shepherd boys, tormenting cattle and sheep, and shapeshifting when it suits their pranks. In Fetch’s Otherworld town, they appear mostly as drunken locals who make up the amateur football club. They haven’t made the regional playoffs in years, as every game devolves into bickering and brawling amongst themselves.
A group of various Buachailleen gather around. Fetch looks overwhelmed.
BUACHAIL 1: Back in town, are ya, Fetch?
BUACHAIL 2: I heard ya were living in the human world. What’s that like?
BUACHAIL 3: I got a cousin lives in Mumbai. Says it’s crowded. You ever meet him?
BUACHAIL 4: What kinda work you got up there?
BUACHAIL 5: Verrry interrrrrestinngg…
PANEL 2
Fetch joins Knob at a round corner booth.
FETCH: Well, some things never change.
KNOB: Wait til they get drunk.
PANEL 3
Knob sips his pint, Fetch studies his pint. Fiona, pixies and Hob play darts and pool in foreground.
KNOB: So what brings you back, Fetch?
FETCH: I dunno. My mom is sick, so I guess I’ll help my sister care for her.
PANEL 4
Knob looks solemnly at his Pint, Fetch shrugs
KNOB: Good on ya. A son looking after his mam.
FETCH: Beyond that, I don’t know. Fart around here, I suppose.
PANEL 5
Knob grins, Fetch smirks
KNOB: Sounds a bit feckless.
FETCH: That’s me. Feckless Fetch.
