A digital sketch I did last month as a warm up exercise relied on an old pic of the late great Marc Bolan, founder of T. Rex. I think this is on the cover of one of his albums. He was an odd, inventive musician with deliberately silly lines like “On a mountain range, I’m Doctor Strange” and “I got stars in my beard and I feel real weird”, both from “Mambo Sun” off of Electric Warrior, a record I turn to every 18 months for an obsessive refresher.
Last year I borrowed a Cintiq from my friend Barry Deutsch and started learning how to use it. One of the exercises I assigned myself was to ink and color in Photoshop a sketch drawn in pencil. I chose James Joyce and Samuel Beckett, because at the time I was reading Ulysses and had watched a documentary of Beckett and a filmed version of Krapp’s Last Tape. I meant to do much more on it, but got distracted by working on the pages of Fetch you have seen so far, plus other real world problems. I like how this turned out, anyway, and today, while reading about how the Nobel Prize committee had reservations about awarding Beckett the prize in literature in 1968 (they gave him one in 1969, despite holding the same reservations about his pessimism), I realized I had not posted it here. Derp. Well, here it is! I hope you like it.
Lately I have been bothered by a notice in Chrome’s URL bar telling me my site was not secure, despite quite a few headaches two years ago installing all sorts of security precautions in the wake of some rather rude hackers freaked Google out. All that got fixed, and it wasn’t cheap.
But after some investigation I found that my webhost generates SSL certificates, they just need someone to notice them. (Yes, I know it’s more technical than that, but what a yawn that would be.) So if you are visiting now on Chrome, you should see this at the top of your browser:
Firefox has a cute little green padlock, and other browsers should show some sign that it is now safe to visit this site for now until the end of time or civilization or whichever comes first. Enjoy!
